THE COLOURS

We create our colours using a variety of natural plant dyes, ranging from seasonal seaweeds and botanicals to food waste. Each dye batch is a unique creation, with some colours making a comeback and others being one-of-a-kind treasures that might not return for a long time—or ever!

Every batch is its own little adventure. It’s a process of trial and error, and we’re constantly amazed by the magic plants bring to our craft. For us, this is the true joy of what we do: celebrating the artistry and uniqueness of every dye.

We release a fresh dye drop every 3–4 months, so keep an eye out for new and exciting shades! If you spot a colour you love, don’t wait—it might not be available again. Below are some examples of our dye baths for inspiration.

For custom colours, feel free to get in touch. We’ve tested a wide range of plants and food-based dyes and have a catalogue of options we’d love to explore with you. Please note that custom orders may include additional fees.

HOUSE DYES

01 / AVOCADO. The most perfect pink, not peachy but not bubblegum, just right! dyed using both stones and skins of avocados that have been lovingly collected in the freezers of us and our friends and families over the last few months. Avocado is obviously not locally grown or seasonal so this won’t be a regular colour for us, its taken a few months to collect enough for a good bath.

02/ BLADDERWRACK. A pale peachy shell tone, dyed using Bladderwrack Seaweed, a incredibly abundant local resource, and the cornerstone of FLOTS' conception. Bladderwrack is one of the dyes we will be reaching for over and over. This is a delicate pale shade of a winter batch which has a slight lean towards orange.

03 / RED CABBAGE. Our newest resident colour. Red cabbage transforms into a delicate lilac that’s quickly become one of our most loved shades.

      SEASONAL DROP 01: F L O T S   X

Our first collaboration! From the beginning, we dreamed of working with local restaurants to transform food waste into colour. Teaming up with Bottega Caruso, a much loved family run Italian restaurant in Margate, for this drop has been such a special step. We experimented with two ingredients from their spring menu: artichoke leaves and pomegranates.

01 / ARTICHOKE. Using only the leaves (not the whole veg), the dye revealed a soft, pale creamy tone — subtle, elegant, and already nearly sold out so be quick if you have your eye on this colour.

02 / POMEGRANATE. To our surprise, the pomegranate created the most beautiful buttery yellow. We’re obsessed.
